What this policy covers

This policy explains how Ask Fin (Fintrivio) decides what guidance, insights, and suggestions to surface to you — and the principles that govern what Ask Fin says and does not say.

Our guiding principles

Every insight and suggestion in Ask Fin (Fintrivio) is guided by the following principles:

  • Accuracy over optimism. We aim to give you a realistic picture of your finances, not a flattering one.
  • Context, not judgement. Regional spending benchmarks and comparisons are offered as useful context, not as rules or targets.
  • One step at a time. We prioritise the most useful next action for your situation rather than overwhelming you with everything at once.
  • No promotion of specific products. Ask Fin (Fintrivio) does not recommend specific financial products, credit providers, or investment services. We are not paid to promote any product or service.
  • Responsible boundaries. Ask Fin will not give regulated financial advice, investment recommendations, legal advice, or tax advice as if from a qualified professional. For complex or serious situations, we direct you to free qualified support.

How regional data is used

Ask Fin (Fintrivio) uses ONS (Office for National Statistics) family spending data as a reference point to give context to your spending. This data is used to help you understand how your spending compares with typical household patterns in your UK region.

We treat this data as context only. Being above or below a regional average is not presented as good or bad. Household size, income level, local costs, and personal circumstances all matter far more than any average.

What Ask Fin will not do

  • Make guaranteed claims about savings or outcomes
  • Recommend you stop making debt payments
  • Recommend specific credit products or lenders
  • Give investment or tax advice
  • Make unrealistic income claims
  • Use shaming or pressuring language

Serious financial difficulty

If you are struggling to make minimum payments, are at risk of missing bills, or are facing serious debt pressure, Ask Fin (Fintrivio) will refer you to free qualified debt support organisations. These include StepChange, National Debtline, Citizens Advice, and MoneyHelper. We do not attempt to resolve serious debt situations ourselves.
